We are a stew, one in which all the flavors add to the mix and the nourishment; each and every part of that stew comes together. We can taste it, each and every part.
We believe that these differences, these places we come from and these stories we tell are all present in God’s magnificence and complexity, much so intricate and hidden that we can only imagine its purpose and power.
Being multi-cultural is not simply an accident; we were not made to be apart, we were not conceived as members of enclaves, of gated communities; we warmly welcome all people from all places.
At last count, there were twenty different countries represented in our community; twenty different flavors; twenty different traditions, cultures, nations and places.
Multi-cultural church is intentional, not an accident; it is our Lord’s intention and it is ours.
Coming to fully grasp and embrace this truth of all being equal, all being here for purpose, all contributing, all valued, all loved and all precious… this is what it is to be multi-cultural.
We are curious; we love confusion and dissonance just as much as order and harmony.
We joke about these unique elements of who we are, and we celebrate them.
Concepts of time, change; ideas about what is happening and why expand; our capacity to love and to support and to be with each other deepens.
We are meant to figure this all out, to learn to live and love together, to accept and welcome our differences, our costumes, our languages, our foods, our music, our dancing and our peccadillos; oh, and our strengths, too.
